CHICAGO, IL – The Center for Addiction Treatment and Recovery, located at Holy Cross Hospital, is now open to provide substance abuse care for underserved communities on Chicago’s Southwest and West sides. Sinai Chicago has partnered with US HealthVest, a national leader in behavioral health services, to offer an advanced hospital-based drug and alcohol detoxification program focused on individualized care and support.

“The communities we serve on Chicago’s Southwest and West sides are facing significantly higher levels of drug abuse and addiction,” said Karen Teitelbaum, President and CEO of Sinai Chicago. “Our Community Health Needs Assessment identified substance abuse as one of the top five community health problems facing the neighborhoods we serve. The Center will make a significant impact not just on those individuals and their families, but on entire communities that have borne an inequitable share of the burden of the crisis of addiction and abuse in our city.”

The medical detox program will provide monitoring and management in an inpatient setting utilizing medical professionals including registered nurses, internal family medicine doctors and psychiatrists. The treatment team will also include licensed social workers, patient care technicians and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors. The program will serve patients recovering from addiction to substances ranging from alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, heroin, barbiturates and overuse of prescription medication.

While medical stabilization is the primary focus, the Center’s program incorporates a comprehensive therapeutic approach that encourages patients to safely explore triggers, stressors, warning signs and coping skills related to their addiction. Treatment takes special consideration of the withdrawal phase of detoxification and supports an individualized treatment plan. The road to recovery is initiated as the patient begins to accomplish both short- and long-term treatment goals. Continuing care and recovery are introduced and promoted through a variety of group settings. Patients that test positive for opiates will receive Naloxone training and be provided with a kit at the time of discharge.

“We are excited to work with Sinai Chicago to bring these critical services to the community,” said Richard Kresch, M.D., President and CEO of US HealthVest. “The Center for Addiction Treatment and Recovery at Holy Cross Hospital will provide state of the art, comprehensive care for those needing help to overcome drugs and alcohol and put their lives back together.”

Long term recovery and support are critical elements of the individually focused treatment plans put into place. Continuity of care will come through collaborative relationships between the Center and community health centers, residential treatment centers and recovery homes, local 12-step programs and Sinai Chicago inpatient and outpatient care. A program therapist will provide support and facilitate aftercare planning, providing connection between the patient and the critical resources needed to ensure a successful care journey.

The Center for Addiction Treatment and Recovery will provide 24/7/365 care. No referral is necessary, walk-ins are welcome. To make appointment, call 312.882.1352.
